Background
In the early 1990’s, Janna founded of a women’s prevention program that addressed the connections between HIV/AIDS, domestic violence, sexual abuse, drug use, sexuality, and body image. She also researched and developed an HIV prevention program that works with women substance users, and led an effort to evaluate federally-funded HIV prevention programs.
Prior to becoming an independent consultant, Janna was the coordinator of special projects for the California Breast Cancer Research Program (CBCRP) working closely with the executive director and the advisory Council to evaluate the outcomes from CBCRP's grant programs and implement a multi-level strategic planning process. A major outcome from the CBCRP’s strategic planning process was the creation of the Special Research Initiatives -a $26 million dollar effort to fund innovative research on the environmental causes of breast cancer and the causes of breast cancer disparities.
Janna has a master’s degree in public health from Emory University with a focus on Behavioral Sciences/Health Education and a minor in qualitative research.
When she is not working in public health, Janna can be found spending time with her family, surfing, or otherwise enjoying the Bay Area.
